Phillies eliminate L.A. in five games

The Los Angeles Dodgers were eliminated by the Philadelphia Phillies in the best-of-seven National League Championship Series in Game 5. This was the second year in a row the Phillies ended the Dodgers hopes of advancing to the title game, this time Philadelphia dropped the deciding contest by a 10-4 margin in GameĀ 5 at the Citizen Bank Park. Andre Ethier told the press “It’s more disappointing this year than last year in that we felt we were more prepared this year.” Manager Joe Torre told his ball club how proud he was of them. Dodgers players exchanged handshakes in the clubhouse. Matt Kemp expressed his feelings about the series. He said, “Two years in a row, getting beat by the same team. We’re all heartbroken right now. Not to make it all the way, we’re definitely teasing ourselves.” The three runs the Dodgers scored on solo home runs by Ethier, James Loney, and Orlando Hudson were rendered meaningless by the seven runs registered by the Phillies. L.A.’s Casey Blake was two for 19 in the series and left the bases loaded with an eight-inning groundout that marked the Dodgers last hope at forcing a GameĀ 6 in Los Angeles.
