The Colorado Rockies stopped the hemorrhaging today, beating the San Francisco Giants 4-3. Colorado had lost it’s previous two games against the Giants, who they are currently in a battle with for the NL Wild Card slot.
Matt Cain of SF was slated to do a number on the Rockies. Cain came into the game with an ERA well in the 2’s and is on the short list of Cy Young candidates this year. He was facing Jorge De La Rosa, who was 0-8 this year. However, De La Rosa surprised everyone and pitched 8 solid innings. Even though the Rockies relievers struggled, the Rockies managed to hang on for this important win, and are now 3.5 games up on the Giants.
