News on David Ortiz, Roy Halladay and George Sherrill

If you haven’t heard by now, we’re going to break the story to you bluntly and coldly. David Ortiz reportedly tested positive for steroids back in 2003, the same year that Manny Ramirez did, as part of the “anonymous” testing. A bad day for baseball… moving on…

In other news, Roy Halladay might be stating in Toronto after all. The Blue Jays’ ace has been the hot topic on the trade wire for some time now, but right at the last minute things settled down. The Phillies grabbed Cliff Lee and some of the other teams who showed interest- like the Dodgers and Red Sox, have moved onto other things.

Speaking of other things that the Dodgers have moved onto, the NL West leaders decided to go after an experienced relief pitcher, George Sherrill. A good, left handed closer with the Orioles this season, Sherrill came to the Dodgers for a couple of minor league prospects. Johnathan Broxton is expected to remain the Dodgers’ main closer, but Sherrill can some in when the situation demands, or act as a set-up man.
