First up on this lovely Tuesday Morning, Tom Verducci has his own All-Star Game selections up at SportsIllustrated.com. He’s marketing them as the no-holds-barred version of the All-Star selections, because he doesn’t care much for overall popularity or veteran status. He has a lot of youngsters in the game and there are some teams who were left out of the game completely, which is obviously against the rules. For the most part his lineups aren’t too shocking. Even the Johan Santana snub can be somewhat defended, as he’s appeared to get worse as the others on his list have gotten better. Check it out and make sure to voice your opinion.
In some trade news, the Pittsburgh Pirates dealt Eric Hinske and some cash to the New York Yankees for a couple of minor leaguers. Hinske is a utility fielder who can fill in in numerous spots that might become trouble for the Yankees in the second half of the season. Although he hasn’t been brilliant behind the plate thus far this season,Hinske hit 20 home runs last year, and has decent power despite a usually low batting average.
