The Colorado Rockies are on a hot streak, having won their 17th game in their last 18 outings. Since the team fired manager Clint Hurdle and instated Jim Tracy, the team has gone 19-5. The Rockies were on pace to be one of the worst teams in the league and finish at the bottom of the NL West, but now they’re thrid in the division, just one game back from second-place San Francisco. They have quite a few more games to win to catch the Dodgers at the top, though. Said fielder Todd Helton,
”I think we just started playing up to our potential and doing a lot of the little things it takes to win games. Obviously, it starts with starting pitching. Even when a guy hasn’t pitched his best game - which guys have been doing a lot lately - they’ve stayed away from big innings and we’ve been able to bounce back.”
In other news, Donald Fehr, the executive director of the Major League Baseball Players Union, has announced his retirement. A lot has happened under his tenure, some of which he is priased for and some of which he gets some heat. Overwhelmingly the public sentiment and sportswriters’ opinions have been negative (this is a trypical article about his tenure). But then again, he might have had one of the most tramatic times in histroy to be a head of this organization. Histroy will probably remember him favorably down the line.
