Interleague Play and Other Things to Watch

Everybody loves interleague play it would seem, especially if you get the right matchups at the right time, and it doesn’t take too much away from the action within the divisions. So far Major league Baseball has run a pretty good show as far as play between the leagues goes, and this coming week is a great example of all that’s right with interleague matchups.

Right now you have Los Angeles and Los Angeles of Anaheim going at each other in a prefect Southern California interleague matchup. Everybody loves when the Mets and the Yankees play, or the White Sox and the Cubs, or the Giants and the A’s.  There are other, less notable regional, interleague rivalry games. As Danny Knobler remarks, the Tigers and Twins always love to play a series at Wrigley. And shouldn’t there be a nice rivalry between the Nationals and the Orioles starting up?

Knobler takes us through a couple of other fascinating storylines to watch this week. Several rehabbing MLB stars, including Manny Ramirez and John Maine, will play in minor league ballparks coming up. Pedro Martinez might sign somewhere soon. The three best games according to Knobler are Cardinals-Mets, Phillies-Rays and, get this, Nashville at Albuquerque.
