Still in Sin City, the general managers of every important Major League Baseball team is finally coming to some conclusions as the days begin to pass. One such decision is where to put K-Rod, or rather Francisco Rodriguez, who has recently been getting attention not for his free agent struggle regarding the 2009 season but rather his self indulgent relationship with recently divorced pop icon Madonna. Nonetheless, without the gossip being discussed in Las Vegas this week, managers are able to make an educated decision regarding where to put this player, and the Mets are looking the most promising. According to the MLB.com, the Mets are “on the brink” of finally signing the free agent, who has been in talks with the team for over two months. “I am more optimistic than I have ever been,” Rodriguez’s agent Paul Kinzer told the New York Post Monday night. The Met’s general manager, Omar Minaya, met with Rodriguez just before he began meetings on Sunday, while he met with K-Rod’s manager yesterday.
The 27 year old Rodriguez saved a Major League record 62 games last season, making his proposed deal a hefty one — five years and $75 million. Backing down just a little, with a three year contract and simply $37 million, “Once you get to where you are right now,” Minaya told MLB.com, “I think you should be comfortable enough to be able to close the deal and get it done at this point in time.” Get your MLB tickets now from StubHub.com.
