Pedroia at Home

He may be just a young second baseman, but Dustin Pedroia has recently signed a six year contract with the Boston Red Sox and in his two previous seasons has made some serious accomplishments for both his team and for himself. It was announced that the Red Sox and Pedroia reached an agreement for a six year, $40.5 million contract, which included a seventh year option for $11 million. “It’s something we’re thrilled about,” said Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein to MLB.com. “It’s definitely something we wanted as a club and something I think Dustin was looking to do as well. It came together as a product of a lot of hard work. He really embodies just about everything we look for in a Red Sox player. That makes this a great day for the organization.” Pedroia won the American League Rookie of the Year Award in 2007 and captured the AL Most Valuable Player Awards, a Gold Glove Award and a Silver Slugger Award this year. “I’m extremely excited,” Pedroia said to MLB.com. “I definitely wanted to be here a long time and help the Red Sox win. Today, it happened, and hopefully the next six years, we can win some championships. My first thought about the whole thing was, ‘I play for the best team in the Major Leagues.’ Who wouldn’t want to play for the Boston Red Sox? We’re going to have an opportunity to win every year. The fans are the best. The city embraces their team, so why not? It fits.” If you’re all about making Pedroia feel like he’s right at home at Fenway Park, join in on the fun with Major League Baseball starts up again with your own Boston Red Sox tickets!
