According to the Denver Post, the Rockies and the Cubs are making a switch-a-roo for their pitchers this year as the Rockies complete a deal with Marquis’ $9.875 million salary for 2009, while Vizcaino is due $3.5 million. The first reports were led by ESPN on Tuesday after speculations that the Rockiers Winter Meetings held with right hander Jason Marquis would lead to a trade earlier this month, though nothing will officially be commented nor confirmed until the end of next week. The trade would give up fellow right hander Luis Vizcaino to the Cubs in place of the Rockies former pitcher. Marquis went 11-9 with a 4.53 ERA last season in 29 games, with a total of 79-70 with a 4.55 ERA in 257 games, including 198 starts.
The Rockies had three solid starters, right hander Aaron Cook, left hander Jeff Francis and righter Ubaldo Jimenez. They wanted a more whole lineup, someone with “front of the rotation talent,” as MLB.com called it, but other teams were all pricing their players too high. Marquis, at thirty years old, is experienced and a solid pitcher. Either way with the new pitcher the Rockies plan on looking good this season, so catch Rockies tickets now before their game runs out!
