Red Sox with New Japanese

The Red Sox offered Japanese right hand pitcher Junichi Tazawa a $6 million contract, according to the Japanese newspaper Sankei Sports. The 22 year old amateur will be the team’s third addition from Japan, which now will also include Daisuke Matsuzaka and Hideki Okajima. Tazawa met with Craig Shipley, the Red Sox’s vice president of international scouting for two hours and according to Nikkan Sports he is already set on the Boston team. The deal is a Major League deal for $3 million over three years with possibility of a bonus.

Tazawa gained attention from several Major League teams and skipped the Japanese draft to heighten his possibility of signing in the United States. And though he has never pitched in a major league game before, Japanese or otherwise, several teams are catching his attention — the Tigers and the Atlanta Braves.
