Yankees 36 year old pitcher Andy Pettitte has just confirmed that he wants to come back in 2009 for another season throwing strikes and fast balls. Yet to file for free agency, the former Yankees player went 14-14 with a 4.54 ERA in 33 starts this past season and according to Pettitte’s Houston based agent as concluded by MLB.com, “he has decided to pitch.” He wants to make 2009 his 15th year career, which has included over 200 pitching games ten times, with the past four seasons with either the Yankees or the Astros. Speaking to a television station last night, he told news reporters that he hoped to keep working with the blue stripped team. “I would like to play again,” he said during an interview with KRIV. “My thoughts are there. I’d like to play again. Other than that, I will have to see what happens. I am letting my agents handle everything.” When asked about returning to the Yankees, Pettitte added that he didn’t know if anything had happened yet with his manager but hopes that talks will occur in the future.
With an arm strong, saying “My shoulder gave me a little bit of trouble at the end of the season this year. I’ve had it checked out. The doctors told me that everything looks good. I just need some rest. What it does, is it give me an option to play and give me the confidence to know that I think I will be able to continue to stay healthy.” He knows that all he can do right now is wait for that call saying which team he will play with next season and rest up that arm.
