Nats Sign Estrada

Jorge Estrada was just signed to a one-year contract with the Washington Nationals. Estrada will get $1.25 million, plus bonuses if he reaches certain performance standards. The Nationals, as you might already know, just signed an A-list catcher in the winter. Paul Lo Duca signed with Washington for one year, $5 million. Of course, Lo Duca has been in the trainers room a bit too much for Washington to be betting the farm on his left knee. While Estrada has been dealing with his own set of injuries in the twilight of his career, the Nationals need something more than an untested, single-A player who would otherwise be the next up on the depth chart at catcher.

If you read the article about the deal at ESPN.com, you can post comments at the bottom of the page. At the time of this blog post, there have been no comments. Does this mean that the people generally don’t think much of this deal? Did the Nationals pay too much for a player who might never don a mask in ’08? Are the Nats fortifying their sand-foundation Lo Duca with mud-foundation Estrada? Let’s hear it, people!
