There is a lot going on in Major League Baseball right now. There’s so much, in fact, that this blog must be divided up into two separate news stories to get through the day. The first item of business is the fact that the Boston Red Sox and the Cleveland Indians are set to play game 5 of the American League Championship Series tonight in Cleveland. As you probably know, the Red Sox are down 3-1 right now, so it is an elimination game for them. Not only are they facing the end of one of their best regular seasons ever, but they will have to score runs against the Indians’ ace starting pitcher, C.C. Sabathia. The Sox will start Beckett, the man who won the first game of the series for them. All of Red Sox Nation hopes the team can rekindle that 2004 magic, but only a few of the players from that year- including Manny and Papi, remain in Boston.
The other news coming out of the Major League Baseball world has to do with the Yankees. Apparently Joe Torre, the longtime manager of the Bronx Bombers, has refused to resign with the team. The Yankees offered Torre a one-year, $5 million deal, but Torre has declined it, and all signs point to Torre walking away from the management part of the game. There should be lots of debate as to the decisions made by Torre and the Yankees, and opinions about this story are everywhere.
