Jason Giambi is near a deal, but it isn’t the kind that will potentially earn him a lot of mosey. He is being strong-armed to testify in an ongoing investigation into the use of steroids and other doping agents in Major League Baseball. Giambi has, in leaked testimony, admitted to using illegal performance enhancing drugs in the past.
His deal will, potentially, have a clause stating that he will not be required to rat out other players or conspirators. The investigation is called the Mitchell Investigation, because it is being spear-headed by former US Senate Majority Leader Bill Mitchell.
Giambi still plays designated hitter for the New York Yankees. The Yankees are on a bit of a tear right now, so getting New York Yankees tickets is becoming harder and harder to do these days. Of course, if Giambi ends up getting suspended or kicked off of the Yankees, they might not be so hot anymore. The same might be true if he stops using steroids. Things don’t look good for Jason, and it is still uncertain whether this investigation will call upon stars like Barry Bonds to testify as well.
