ESPN has an interesting article out by Jayson Stark which tries to make sense of some of the most puzzling things going on in Major League Baseball right now. The hottest topics have been the dismal performances of the Yankees and stars like Alpert Pujols, Frank Thomas, Alfonso Soriano and a few others. By and large he tries to rely on the fact that it is not yet the halfway point in the season, thus you can say “it’s still early,” and things will get better for those who have proven they can win in the past.
Of course, in a few weeks, we won’t be able to say that any longer. All that anybody keeps saying in the news is the reassuring chant that, at some point, the Yankees will go on a tear and get into the playoffs. ….
…But what if they DON’T!? …Torre will likely be gone, Cashman too. And a lot of salary money will have been paid for nothing. Still, Big Apple baseball fans will get to watch one team, because Stark thinks that you should already be allowed to go to StubHub.com to get some New York Mets tickets for home playoff games.
