White Sox’ Buehrle Throws No Hitter

Chicago White Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle recorded the first no-hitter of the 2007 season en route to a victory over the Texas Rangers.  It was the first no-hitter for a White Sox pitcher since 1991.

Buehrle faced 27 batters, the minimum needed to record such a feat.  He walked only one.  Sammy Sosa was walked in the fifth, ending any chance of a prefect game.  Sosa was then quickly picked off at first. Buehrle struck out eight batters, and got some help with his feat from a few great defensive plays made by his White Sox teammates.

Said Buehrle after the game, “I can’t believe I did it. Perfect game would have been nice, too…. Obviously, never in a million years thought I’d be able to have this happen. I don’t know if it’s really sunk in yet”

Only slightly less impressive than the no-hitter was Jermaine Dye’s grand slam, which put the White Sox up 5-0 in the fifth. Jim Thome also hit two home runs to complete Chicago’s 6-0 victory.

Buehrle will rest up and savor his victory until he starts again next week.  The White Sox will face the Texas Rangers again tonight in Chicago.  If you want to see any upcoming games with Buehrle, then you can always check out StubHub.com for Chicago White Sox tickets.
