If you were looking to get your hand on World Series Tickets, you better act fast because this thing could be over after tonight. The Detroit Tigers were looking like they might roar back to life last night, taking a 3-0 early in the game against Jeff Suppan. But behind David Eckstein’s four hits- including three doubles and a single – the Cardinals rallied to win it 5-4 and now need just one more win to become World Series champions.
On the brink of elimination, Tigers manager Jim Leyland says that it’s a no-brainer who he is going to start tonight to keep the Tigers dreams of a World Series victory alive. Despite having thrown 23 consecutive scoreless innings in the post season, Leyland said he will not shuffle the rotation to bring in Kenny Rogers for tonight and will start Justin Verlander.
The gossip on the St. Louis Cardinals side of things surrounds their closer, Adam Wainwright. The closer was the hero in a hard way last night, blowing the save in the 8th inning for the Cardinals but then shutting down the Tigers 1-2-3 in the 9th to earn the win. Wainwright though, admits that the gravity of all of this has yet to sink in. “I hate to say it, but it doesn’t feel like the World Series.”
