Potential Playoff Preview this Week

In what could be a potential preview of the playoffs to come, the Detroit Tigers will face off against the New York Yankees for a three game series beginning tomorrow.

The Yanks, having recently assumed control of first place in the AL East, have a lot riding on these games as they hit right at the beginning of the next-to-last month of the regular season.  The Tigers, widely regarded as the best team in the AL this season, will also be looking to prove they have what it takes to shut down the formidable Yankees offense.

Since joining the AL in 1901, Detroit has won four World Series, nine AL titles and three AL East Division crowns.  The last time the Tigers’s won the AL title was in 1984, when (as MLB.com points out) Derek Jeter was just 10 years old and the Yankees finished third in the AL East a whopping 17 games behind Detroit.

Tickets for the Tigers Yankees series are still available on Stubhub starting around $20.
